Sudhir Choudhries Journey from India to London: A Case Study in Entrepreneurship

From a young age, Sudhir Choudhrie developed a strong entrepreneurial drive, and his commercial skills were recognized at an early age. At 26 years, he had moved and explored various countries and regions, including the US and Europe. In 1978, he established UCLIM, a diversified business group with holdings in media and telecoms and mining and infrastructure. UCLIM was listed on the London Stock Exchange, and Sudhir’s shareholding went up to over 80%.

His second company was Goldex Corporation which was based in Australia at the time, to become a major player in the mining of precious metals such as gold, silver, and diamonds. By the time he exited Goldex, Sudhir’s ownership was 80%, and today the company is worth billions. Sudhir has been actively involved with Teach for India’s nonprofit group for over ten years, both as a trustee and a volunteer. He has also served on the Council for Research in International Education (CRIE), which is based at Oxford University and is one of the world’s foremost authorities on international education in several capacities.

Sudhir Choudhrie has served on the boards of World Education Services (WES), a U.S.-based nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening the education systems in the developing world. He has chaired the governing body of the India Education Foundation, which is headquartered in New Delhi. For six years, Sudhir served on the World Commission on International Education board, chaired by retired British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Sudhir Choudhrie has contributed to improving the world in several ways. In addition to supporting the work of a range of international organizations, he has also pioneered initiatives designed to boost business growth and knowledge sharing amongst the Indian diaspora worldwide. The group includes multinational corporations, investment funds, and world-leading universities. Sudhir believes that cultural diversity is at the heart of the 21st Century, which has created global problems and, more importantly, global solutions.

Sudhir Choudhrie was the Founder of Millennium & Copthorne Hotels, a leading luxury hotel chain in the UK, boasting of hotels located in iconic destinations worldwide, including London, New York, Singapore, and Beijing. It likewise owns the Savoy Hotel in London and the iconic Hotel des Bergues in Paris.
